On Thursday the final rice for the Townley Cun was run on the Makauri course. Much interest had been aroused, and a fine finish resulted. G. Aston, who was piaced first, is a young rider of great promise. After a determined race he beat A. Anderson on the post. Aston and Wilkinson have now equal points for .the cup and the deciding race should be an interesting one. It is hoped to put another cvcle race oil the programme for St. Patrick’s Day sports. The matter of acquiring a racing track is still being kept in view, ami it is hoped tint before next season a scheme will be submitted for the making of a track on Victoria Domain. Negotiations are progressing for a match between the two groat American riders, M ijor Taylor and Frank Kramer, and it is expected that tho event will take place in France some time this year. 41. Thomas, the Victorian without doubt, tlie finest handicap rider Austral! i lias produced since tho. days of \V. C. Jackson (says a Sydney writer). Thomas, who finished ■second in tlie Austral Wheel Race of ~ 1904, and won the big evens from 20yds in record time in 1906, again proved at the Melbourne A.N.A. meeting what a groat handicap ruler be is by winning the A.N.A. Wheel' Race, one mile, from 25yds, in the fast time of 1 min 57 S-ix-.cc. after catching flic field and taking up the running in the last lap and a quarter. Thomas rode so strongly that E. Pro, who trailed Lis wheel' for the last /00yds., could make no impression on him in the final rush for ilic tape.
