On the Gisborne club’s courts today the final game for the Hawley Cu'i) will be phi ye'd between--Barlow and Margoliolith, and a great struggle is expected. The game was commenced on a previous occasion but had to be abandoned when the contestants were two sets all. Exceptional interest is-being taken in the event, and both contestants have been training carefully. - On April 17th, 18th;'and 2'Otlf^'a—««, open tournament will be held by the Gisborne club, at which it is.cxoected that a number of outside players will compete. An interclub match has been arranged for on April 18th with the Dannevirke club, which will be represented by twelve gentlemen and eight ladies. On Wednesday next. Margoliou; fch and W. L. Coleman leave for Napier to take part in the tennis tournament to be held in connection with the Carnival. All exhibition doubles match, at which Madame Melba was present, was played recently oil the private grass court of Mr T. A. Patterson, at Kew. The competitors were Norman Brookes, the world’s champion, who was associated with his old partner, J. R. Fraser, and the present •holders of the doubles championship of Victoria, A. AY. Dunlop and R. AY. Heath. An exciting, fine set go resulted in favor of Dunlop and Heath, who won a fine uphill gave at 4-6, 2-6, 7-o, 6-4, 7-5. After a stay of a couple of months in New Zealand H. A. Parker has left for Sydney. During his stay in the Dominion lie competed-in several tournaments, and had a most successful career. The ex-New Zealander will be a competitor for the New South YTales championships next month. In all probability lie will play with Fisher in the doubles, provided the latter can get away. If this is possible, the combination will be a very strong one. and we may expect them to go near, if not annex, the doubles championship. Parker will be a strong caii.di date "for t]:e~'sm'gies~' ~ event, and if Fisher strikes betterform tliaii at present he may be expected to give a good account- of himself. If Fisher goes over, the pair will also probably play in the South Australian championships.
