A- cordial invitation to the battleship fleet, to visit any port .in Japan on the homeward cruise was presented to Air. Root on Thursday, and accepted yesterday. The fleet visits Yokohama. Air. Taft, interviewed, predicted a warm welcome, which would surprise the pessimists. He added that there had been no addition to the programme of some years ago.

The decision has been well received, and tho belief is that it will lead to tlio development of improved relations. The New Y’ork correspondent of the Express says that tlio visit to Japan is stirring the 'whole country from Alaine to California. Tho Government has effectually silenced the jingoes. According to naval exports the fleet is in better condition that at the start of the voyage, and around Cape Horn the vessels demonstrated their thorough seaworthiness.
