MATA'WHERO STOCK SALES

Tlio heavy rain was responsible for a- rather small yarding of stock at tho weekly sales at Matawhero yesterday. The yards were inches deep .in mud, auctioneers, sellers, and buyers having great difficulty in moving about. Many of the buyens complained badly of the condition of tilings, and suggested that a- few yards of gravel, or somo concrete paving was absolutely necessary near tho auctioneer’s offices, if any degree of comfort is to bo provided for tlio wot season. Though the usual number of butchers wore present, tho number of farmers on tho looko.it for store stock was small. Tho bidding was again erratic, buyers being cautious of reaching a. high figure, with tlio result that a . large number of nens wero passed in. SHEEP. About- 4500 sheep wero yarded. Fat ewes sold from l'ls to 13s lid, tlio averago price being about 12s. Six rams sold at 32s 6cl, and full-mouth-ed ewes from os to 9s; the pens of better class stores did not reach owner’ values and were passed in. CATTLE. Tlio yarding of cattlo was about 270 head, and being of fair quality sold at good prices. Eighty eight 3-year old steers brought £4 12s Oil, 12 nice looking beef bullocks £7 ss, and 30 beef cows £4 to £5. A number of pens of weaners and- store cows were offered and withdrawn, as the reserve was not -reached. No pigs or horses were entered for salo by auction.
