TN AUGUST LAST AN INTERJ- NATIONAL UNION OF MEDICAL MEN WAS FORMED IN STOCKHOLM, WHICH STARTED WITH A MEMBERSHIP OF 1000, AND WHICH HAD FOR ITS OBJECT THE DELIVERANCE OF ALL NATIONS FROM ALCOHOLISM, ON THE FOLLOWING GROUNDS IThat an immense amount of * evil, which all deplore, is due to, or promoted by, Alcohol, in whatever boverages it may bo taken. 2 That it is the special duty of . the. Medical Profession to advise the Nations of the World on the subject. That while the .same habits , and customs with regard to alcoholic beverages continue, .they will produce the same results as in past history - namely, demoralisation and degeneration, both of individuals and nations. 4. That alcoholic beverages are unnecessary lor any form of life, and a need for them is only felt x when it has been artificially created. 5 That all normal organisms • perform their functions .better without alcohol, but it .is " especially injurious to .young - and growing tissues. ' ' 1 . f 6 That for the protection ol a future generations, at is desirable that the children should entirely abstain from all intoxicating beverages, so that, as they grow up as total abstainers, alcoholism and /all its consequences may be gradually extinguished. •
