RARATONGA.
HEAVY WEATHER, ’ Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 11. Raratonga: April 2nd: Tho month of March, which lias just passed, holds the record for tho greatest amount of rain in one month for the past 10 years, -a total of 22.26 inches having fallen in 18 days rain with a maximum of 3.36 inches in one day. The average for tho month of March in the last 10 years is 8.95, and tlie total rainfall for tlio first _ three months of tlio present years is 42.46 inches, as against an average of 28.82 inches lor the previous 10 years. On the loth and 16th of March, Rara-t-onga was visited by . a severe northerly gale, the barometer falling ,to 29.71. The wind was accompanied by a high sea which rolled into tho harbors. The schooner Vaito which was moored in Avatiu harbor was for some time in danger of drifting from lior moorings and going ashore, but luckily her wire ropes held. The mean of the -barometer for tlio month was 29.986 inches. The mean thermometer readings were as follows: mean maximum, 82 degrees; mean minimum, 73.4 degrees.
