EASTER MANOEUVRES. This afternoon the local volunteer contingent, about 100 men, will prooctal under military orders to participate in the first general Easter volunteering manoeuvres held simultaneously on active service conditions throughout the Dominion. Tho East Coast Mounted Rifles will probably bo represented by about ,10 mon, and the Gisborne Rifles and senior members of the Defence Cadets by 58 men. ' Embarkation orders liavo been unloaded at tho last moment, and tho contingent will liavo to ombnrk at ‘1.130 instead of in tho evening as previously arranged. Captain Beere has received tho following message from the Chief Staff Officer, Captain Sandtniann: “Pleaso alter your ordors for embarkation; captain of Toroa states his steamer must leave Gisborno at 4.30 Wednesday afternoon to suit tide.” The ordors have 'boon accordingly amended, and tho mon will embark in the afternoon. The Toroa will- bo dotainod for a couple of hours in tho Bay, where sho will bo tendered at (5.15, the chairman of tho. Harbor Board (Air. J. Townloy) having kindly placed the Board’s launch at tho disposal of tho volunteers for the transference) of a limited number only to tho ship at that hour. Of tlio local volunteering officers invited to attend the manoeuvres and officiate on the umpiro staff, it is understood only Lieut. Lewis has been ablo to accept tho invitation. Captain Beero has issued further ordors respecting tho command of tho Gisborno Rifles, which will ho officered as follows: —Right half company, Lieut. Coleman j left half, Act-mg-Lieut. Somervell; section 1 will bo in charge of Sergt. Rait, section 2 Sergt. J. Somervell, section 3 Sergt. Breingan, and section 4 Sergt. Taylor. Lanco Corporal McGuffio has, for the purposes of tho camp, 'been promoted- to the rank of corporal. Other necessary appointments will bo announced after embarkation.
Tho East Coast Mounted Rifles, which aro designated in the manoeuvres as tho A section of the 4th Regiment, Woffington Mounted Rifles, will be represented by three officers and 40 men, and will be in chargo of Captain Tombleson. Tho officers aro as follows: —No. 1 troop, in. charge of Lieut. C. H. Evans; No. 2 troop, Lieut. Hamilton. The squadron ser-geant-major is Sergeant-Major Spragg; quartermaster sorgeant, Quartermaster-Sergeant Zachariah; troop sergeant No. 1, Sergeant Poynter; No. 2, Sergeant Fairlie. Tho East Coast Mounted Rifles aro notified that tho mounted parade will be held at the Drill Shed 1 at 1 .p.m. to-day, instead of 2 p.m., when the embarking of the horses will be at once proceeded with. The marching orders which have been issued for this section details that the horses are to. bo entrained at Napier at. 1 p.m. to-morrow, aboard a special horse train leaving for the front at 5 p.m., and conveying sufficient men to attend to the horses. Tho troop train will be despatched from Napier at 7.20 p.m. Arriving at Ngahauranga about daylight next morning, the volunteers proceed to headquarters at Johnsonville, necessitating a march of five miles.
