COUNTRY NEWS.
PORT AWANUI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) We have this week had one of the heaviest downpours of rain experienced here for a long time, and it has damaged tho roads considerably. A party of men -are now clearing the slips and drains, and the road will soon be passable again. A new school mistress has been appointed here, but weather has been s 0 bad that very few pupils have turned up. Mr. W. Ramsay i 3 now installed as a saddler in Mr. Jackson’s place, and no doubt lie will bo as successful as his predecessor, u Mr. and Mrs. Jackson are going to Auckland by the Haupiri next trip. TOLAGA BAY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A young man named Lind met with an accident at Air. Hutchinson’s station whilst attempting to shoot a dog. He stamped his .gun on the ground, and tho charge exploded, tho bullet entering liis side. Lind is now lying in a serious condition at Tologa Bay, and is receiving attention from Dr. AYceks.
Another young man, a nephew of Air. A. Mooro, Wigan, had tho misfortune to break his arm. He .was riding across the run, and 1 as his horse jumped a slip, ho lost his balance and Tell off. It is supposed ho was dragged some distance, and tho full extent of his injuries 'were unknown at the time of writing. The sufferer is being attended) by Dr. Weeks.
