There was great cheering over tho result in London music halls and theatres. , •
It is a notable fact that "Mr. Asquith sent Mr. Churchill no letter of encouragement during the election. This is interpreted to mean that lie did not wish to bo identified with some of Mr. Churchill’s pledges. Eighty-nine per cent of the electorate voted. This constitutes a record. The “Times” says the victory is signal, and it is significant that even Home Ilulo was subordinated to tariff reform.
The “Manchester Guardian” says that the -business centre of Manchester struck a damaging blow at freetrade. It must havo wide reaching effects, ' . - -
?dr. Hicks admits that many supported him who disagreed with., his fiical views. Tho Liberals of -Dundee have invited Mr. Churchill to stand for that seat.
