HOCKEY.

FORAIATION OF NEW CLUB

A meeting of lady hockey players was held at Townley’s Hall at 3.30 yesterday afternoon for the purpose of forming a new lady’s club in Gisborne. There were a dozen ladies present, including several of the most prominent players in the district. Air A. Fordo Matthews presided, and expressed pleasure at presiding over a meeting for the object, of forming a new chib in Gisborne. There was nothing like opposition in any branch of athletics, and tho formation of a new club would lead to emulation among tlio players of both, and tend to improve the standard of play generally. After discussion, it was resolved that a new club be formed, to be called “The Rata Hockey Club,” and the following were elected:— Patron,Archdeacon "Williams; President, Air. A. Wachsmann; vice-presidents, Aiessrs O. A. DeLautour, A- Forde Alatthews, AV. E. Goffe, C. Buscke, R. U. Burke, T. Holden, E. H. Pa.vitt, Hon. Captain Tucker, and Airs. R.U. Burke; lion, secretary and treasurer, Miss'B. Goffo; captain, Aliss A. DeLautour; vice-captain, Aliss Matthews.

The subscription to tlio club was fixed at 3s 6cl for playing members, and honorary members 10s 6d. A motion was carried that all future members bo elected by ballot-,, and their names posted on tho noticeboard a week before election. It was decided to affiliate with- the Poverty Bay Hockey Association. ' The questions of colors and days for practice were left to tlie committee.

The new club contains a number of most prominent players, and, judging by the enthusiasm displayed, and the strong executive appointed at tlie inaugural meeting, tho Rata Hockey Club should have a successful career.
