ALLEGED SLANDER.

WRIT TO BE ISSUED AGAINST A MAGISTRATE. A “Times” reporter lias been authoritatively informed that a writ is to be issued ill the Supreme Court at Napier, claiming £IOOO damages against Mr W. A. Barton, Stpendiary Magistrate at Gisborne, for slander alleged to have been uttered in tlie Magistrate’s Court at Wairoa last week. Tlie circumstances of the case are: A man, who had never been in Court before was called to give evidence during the hearing of a case, and mistakihgly stepped into the dock instead of into the witness box. “Come out of there,” said the constable, “you’re in the wrong place,” and it is alleged that Mr. Barton thereupon interjected, “Oh! It’s only his force of habit,” these -words constituting tlie alleged slander.
