RESOLUTIONS'AT A CONFERENCE. (Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 13. At a conference of delegates representing the Canterbury Women’s Institute, the Women’s Christian Tempera nee Union, the Trades and Labor Council, the School Committees Association, and the Socialist party held to consider the report qf the To Oranga Commission, tlie following resolution dealing with the 'matter was passed: “That this conference thanks Mr Fountain for his efforts on behalf of the inmates of the Te Oranga home and pledges itself to do its best to secure payment by the Government of all legal charges in connection with the inquiry.” In respect to the finding of the Commission the following resolution .was unanimously passed: “That-in view 0 f the dissatisfaction which has for years .been openly expressed in regard to the administration of some; of our reformatories and' industrial (schools, this conference urges on the public the necessity of (1) the abolition of centralised management of such-public institution methods which must necessarily lead to an undesirable autocracy with consequent injustice to the individual; (2) The establishment of local boards of control popularly elected to administer all such public institutions, members of 'which Boards should ho paid for their services.” A sub-committee was appointed to act.
