A resolution was adopted extending a cordial wclcomo to the British team, to arrive in Wellington by the Athonic next Monday. A sympathetic resolution was adopted concerning tho death of Air Alt. Baylv, late president of tho Union. On the motion for adoption of tho report and balance sheet being put, Mr Pirani asked what information had been brought before the management committee -with regard to the conduct of the last New Zealand team in Australia. Intimation was mado that nothing -was before tho committee except the manager’s report which mado nothing but complimentary references to the team. With respect to the grant of £2OO made for -fostering football in tile public schools, Air Hunter said lie was opposed to the spending ol' £44 in the purchase of trophies which was realiy the underlying principle of professionalism. Tho incoming management committee would bear this in mind when considering the matter this year. He did not object to the payment of travelling expenses in fostering football, but ho objected to any expenditure on trophies. Air AA'oir expressed tho opinion that the British team was coming a couple of seasons too soon to do much good- educatively. Air Laugsford asked on what terms the British team was coming to New Zealand. .Air Dixon explained that the New Zealand Union, was riaying all the expenses. With regard to the matches to be played in Australia, the Englishmen were going there on exactly the same terms as tho 1904 British team essayed matches in New Zealand. The Now South AVales Union x>aid all the expenses of the team going from New Zealand until it left for England, tho New Zealand Union to receive hair tho net -profits and entertainment expenses to be charged against the New South AA r ales Union. Air Hnuter moved “that rule 35 bo struck out.” The rule gives the management committee power to enter into an arrangement with tlie New Zealand Football Association or with any other amateur sports body or association whereby the disqualification of any such body or association affiliated. to the union respectively, shall be mutually recognised and enforced after notice lias been sent to affiliated unions of any such arrangement. All disqualifications reported to the union by any such body or associataion and communicated by the union to an affiliated union shall be observed as if the same were a disqualifieataion imposed under rule number 34. Air .Dixon moved on behalf of t,ho management committeo that rule 7 of the Ranfurly Shield regulations be deleted and the following substituted : “In all challenge matches for tho Shield (as distinguished from an ordinary match declared to be a challenge match under rule 2) the New Zealand Rugby Union appoint a referee. Tho challenging association shall .bo'entitled, so far as the proceeds of that particular match will allow (after payment of all actual ground charges, gate-keepers’ wages', advertising and other incidental expenses of the match), to reasonable expenses of transit only incurred by the challenging Union in playing . the match. Any balance of such, proceeds shall belong to the union challenged.” The words “of"transit” were cut out, the remainder of clause being adopted. Air Hutchinson moved on behalf of the Otago Union “that it bo an instruction to the committee of management to consider carefully the rules of the game- with a view to their improvement where possible and that the suggestion of the committee he circulated among affiliated Unions for their consideration prior to their being forwarded to the English Union for adoption.”. Air AVilford, in socoiidihg the motion, gave it as his opinion that within the next two years tho only game played in the Dominion would bo tliat under Northern Union rules, not under a professional code, hut an amateur code. A long discussion took place, various delegates urging that too much attention should not be paid to gates I or to the question of pleasing spectators.

It was resolved that the affiliated unions and referees associations be requested to submit to the management committee suggestions for the improvement of tho game lyit.hin two months and that the proposals of the management committee and the suggestions he forwarded to the English Rugby Union as soon as convenient with a request that they may be dealt with next season. A lengthy discussion took place on the question of professionalism, but a number of suggestions submitted on behalf of the Wellington Rugby Union were rejected.
