MIDNIGHT MARAUDING.
LICHTAVARK AND MARLOW SENTENCED. Norman Marlow and Albert Lielitwivrk stood before Mr AY. A. Barton S.AI. in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for sentence upon the charges of theft on which they were found guilty on Monday. On behalf of Marlow Mr Coleman said the accused had been found guilty of petty theft, and taking all the cireuinstances into consideration bethought the prisoner was entitled to the benefits of the First Offenders Act- There was evidence to show he was in the company of the other prisoner when he committed the theft; but up to that time had resisted temptation and nothing beyond the pro--ient charges was known against him. Ail the offences were committed in a diort space of time and wore duo, to a great extent, to the company ho was keeping. Marlow was but a boy who whs easily loci and lie askecl that he bo i'ivon a chance to pull himself together and reeeivo the benefits of probation. , ~ , On behalf of Liclitwark, Mr. Bright said the prisoner had a wife and fain,]y and any sentence would press heavily upon them. _ Addressing the prisoner Liclitwark his AVorship said he had been convicted of a series of prenieditnte'd thefts, and he had no doubt had participated in more crimes than those in which ho had been found out. Tho benefits of the First Offender’s Act could, not be extended to either prisoner, and Liclitwark would ho sentenced to two months imprisonment- with hard labor upon each charge tho sentences to bo cumulative, and. Marlow to three months imprisonment with hard liibor both sentences to bo undergone in tho Napier gaol. . As Liclitwark was convicted upon three charges his sentences total six months’ imprisonment.
