HOLY TRINITY CHURCH.
During next week His Majesty s Theatre will be the scene ’of interesting social functions 'in connection with the celebration of the anniversary of the founding of Holy Trinity Church. • The story of the founding of the district of Poverty Bay-as a Cliurcli of England parish and the building of the present church is remarkable reading ,and residents will have ail opportunity next week of hearing many stories of the old daysThe festivities begin on .AVednesday, June 3rd, with a great parish tea meeting. Several . welli-known ladies of the district are taking tables and something very much out of the ordinary in the way of tea meetings is promised. During the evening Dr Gerard Smith is to give an illustrated lecture on “Egypt under the Pharaohs.” Dr Smith is a member of the Egypt Exploration Society, and has travelled extensively in that wonderful country. He has a remarkably fine collection of colored lantern slides, and these will' he shown by Mr. Poynton’s fine limelight lantern. On Thursday evening there is fo be. a great children’s demonstration, consisting of a tea meeting and musical entertainment. All young people are heartily invited, as also are parents and adults generally. On Friday evening the Parish Anniversary Itally is to be held. This will take the form of a social gathering or conversazione. Interesting details of the old days will be given and a capital musical programme will be given. A purely nominal charge, for the purpose of paying expenses, will be made. Further particulars will be announced later.
