A FURTHER PROPOSITION,

Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 26. Another round in tho protracted contest about the Wellington patent slip was fought yesterday afternoon. Sir James Mills, managing director of the Union Steamship Company,.which secured a. controlling interest in the business some time ago, Mr Kennedy, the Union Company’s local manager, Mr H. Beauchamp, chairman of directors of the Patent Slip Company, and Mr. Duncan, met the Hon. 1. K. MacDonald and other members of the committee appointed by the Harbor Board. The result was that a dehnite offer was made to the .Harbor Board, and this will be considered at a meeting on Saturday. After the close of the last conference it was understood that the Union Company would be agreeable to surrender its interest to the Board at a figure r/reatly above tho pnee which the company paid for its shares, provided it coukl secure sufficient ground and other facilities for the expansion ot its business. The Union Company hopes to get territory where it may establish repairing shops, convemences for the handling of coal m large quantities, and other things required in connection with its rapidly expanding business.
