Earl Carrington (chairman), in proposing the toast of the British-Australas-iun trade, complimented Australia ,on tlm splendid show it had made at ShepA herd’s Bush. It was by far "the best display yet 6eon- of Australia’s staplo products, about which the King and Queen Victoria expressed satisfaction in no measured terms. Mr. Carruthers, in replying, said it was -undoubted that Australia _in tlio future would bo -a groat trading market for Britain. He referred to tho growth of tho butter and meat industries, : thanks to the great shipping companies. Britain ought to copv Germany in subsidising tnklo. If she did so a great extension in British trade would, follow.
