VISIT TO PATUTAHI

Tho Hon. James McGowan, Minister for Hines, with Captain Tucker (chairman of tho Cook County Council), Mr. W. D. Lysnar (Mayor of Gisborne), and a largo number of representative gentlemen, drove to tho Patutahi quarry yesterday, and inspected tho stone obtainable there. The party was welcomed to the district bv tho members of tho Patutahi Rond Board. A .visit was also paid to an old quarry near Falloior s bush, whoro a quantity of good-look-ing stono was to bo seen. Tho party also inspected tho “Gontlo Annio quarry on tho Wairoa Road, and wore of opinion that tho quarry site is a useful one and contains some good stone. The drive out resolved itself auto a picnic more than an official outing, politics and deputations being put on one side. All thoroughly enjoyed themselves, Gisborne being reached at about a quarter to six. Tho Hon. James Carroll was confined to liis house all day yesterday, but is reported to bo making fair progress. Air. McGowan will spend to-day m having a look around the township of Gisborne, and in transacting Departmental business.
