Revolving doom will be used as the best means of preventing draughts and .the. entrance of -dust-. Tho public office is an apartment 73ft by 56ft, and is lighted by one large and several smaller dome lights. In the public office there will. bo a counter enclosing an oral shaped floor space for the. public, 65ft by 34f-t. In the centre of tlie space will bo a circular kiosk for the sale of stamps. There will also he ample desk accoiiimodation for the public use. The counter will be divided off in sections for Savings Bank business, letter delivery, registered letters, and telegrams. Ample accommodation- is provided in the plans for inonoy order offices, telegraph offices, etc, and there will also be a suite of handsome-offices for the Tourist. Department. The building will be of rivetted steel frame construction, embedded in stone, brick, or concrete. This is specially adopted in order to withstand earthquake.shocks, and this class of construction is also fire-proof. The design is in Renaissance style of architecture generally, followed now in public buildings, for the reason that it has a handsome massive appearance and is eminently suitable lor modern requirements. The exterior of the building on the street frontages will be of New Zealand granite or other approved durable building stone, and it is expected that tlio work will take from two to three years to complete.
