.CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAY BOARD.
(Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 15. Tlie chairman of tlie Christchurch Tramway Board-, in the course of liis annual statement, made at the Board meeting to-day, said the Board was in a position to electrify the lilies on which steam service now runs. The Board had considered the question of new districts by subsidised coach services, but probable results hadcompelled the Board to postpone the matter. Meantime the statutory proceedings in connection with, the extension to Halswell should 'he well under way in the course of a week. New trailers were on order, so that the old rolling stock would be reserved for holiday traffic only. At the same meeting the Staff Committee reported that for the 16 days during which the system of not setting of surpluses as .agaiusTdeiicieiicise in regard to the conductor®’ cash, -the daily average surplus of tlie whole staff was 3s 7d per head, as compared with 10s 7d per head for the sixteen days prior to the new arrangement. The average deficiency was 22s 8d before and 16s 8d since. In view of those figures the committee could not recommend' any alterations of its previous report, recommending that the new system should be given -three months’ trial;
