CO-OPERATIVE WORK.
THE TROUBLE AT WAIHI
A RESULTLESS MEETING,. Press Association. WAIHI, June 15. As the result of a. conference in reference to the resolutions by the Miners’ Union that all contracts should be carried out on co-operative lines with the employment of no wages men, a great meeting was held, over a thousand being present. The Mayor presided. Mr. Barry, superintendent of the Waihi mine, produced plans to show that co-operative working oil a large -cale would disorganise the mine, and it would cause dissatisfaction among the men. He "reduced records which he contended showed that where other than small parties had worked 'Under the proposed system in a mine they had disagreed and reduced, the jvurubers. He pointed out the' disastrous consequences of a strike, both to tlie mine and the community, which’ was largely dependent on the gold duty. Mr. Armstrong, president of the Union, supported the system which the Union liad resolved to introduce, and he would never advise the men to crawl down. The .meeting dispersed without any resolution being passed.
