A Convention of 700 Republican delegates supporting Mr. Taft’s election elected Senator Lodge permanent chairman. Senator Lodge’s speech eulogising President Roosovelt’s policy and describing President Roosevelt as the most abused and most popular man in the United States to-day evoked a tremendous outburst of enthusiasm lasting for 40 minutes, and a,demonstration in favor of renewing President Roosevelt’s term, with insistent shouts of “four years more.” Senator Lodge, resuming, declared that Mr. Roosevelt’s refusal of re-nomina-tion was inspired by the loftiest mot-, Ives and a not able .loyalty to American traditions. His, refusal was final arid irrevocable. The cheering was renewed after the formal business adjourned. %
