NO-LICENSE.
THE WELLINGTON CONVENTION NEW PROPOSALS. [Press Association.] WELLINGTON, June 18. This morning the session of the NoLicense Convention was continued. Mr. J. A. D. Adams moved that Parliament bo approached witli a view to abolish bottle licenses.—Carried. Mr. G. B. Nichols moved, find it was carried, that Parliament be asked by the New Zealand Alliance to grant no new brewery licenses or permit depots within or in no-license district borders, and also that all depot permits in such position be withdrawn. Congratulatory resolutions were passed to the United Kingdom Alliance and tlie Anti-Saloon Society of America.
It was -also resolved to frame a set of questions to be put to Parliamentary candidates to ascertain their views on the nd-license question, The Government is to be urged to amend the electoral law in order that the rolls close three weeks before the issue of the writ. The Government is also to be requested not to trade in alcoholic beverages through its viticulturist and Tourist- Department or otherwise, and all tourist hotels licenses to lie cancelled. The next convention is to bo held in Christchurch. A committee representative of the Dominion was set up to consider the question of finances, and to report to the nbxt convention. A paper on, the organisation of theparty was read by Air. iMorine, of Palfnevston North, and it was decided to print it. in- tlio “Vanguard.’.’ The question of temperance instruction in public schools was left in the hands of the Alliance Executive. The Convention decided to convey its congratulations to Dr. Chappie on his election to Tuapeka. Several speakers commented on the fact that Dr. Chappie had always been a supporter of no-license. Congratulations were ordered to be sent to Rev. Mr. Crump on his attaining his 80th year. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance. Mr. A. fs. Adams was in the chair. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following resolution was passed, “that this annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance assembled in Wellington on June 18th. 1908, expresses its deep regret and indignation that in response to the request of the British Government for information- respecting the working of local option in the Dominion, the Minister of Justice failed to give any. adequate response to that request.” The following officers were elected: (President, Mr. AVesleV Spragg (Auckland); vice-p'-c-’idents, Messrs A.
