SACKED CONCERT.
The l Gisborne City Band gave a sacred concert in His Majesty’s Theatre last evening. The' building was crowded, and as applause was practically prohibited there were no encores. The band opened the concert with Rossini’s selection“AA 7 illiain Tell” which was played with fine execution, the work of the cornets being exceptionally good. AH. AY. Harris contributed a euphonium solo, Hock’s “Song Birds,” and showed that ho is an instrumentalist of no mean ability: His note's wore clear and welldefined. the variations wero well placed, and the general execution good. The piece was not, however, a popular one, and being over-long rather tired the audience. The best instrumental effort was the quartette. “La Favourita,” by Alessrs Torrens, Douglas, AleCaskill, and AA’illiams, which was played with animation, good tone, and clear definition. Airs. Truen sang “A gong of Thanksgiving.” Mrs. Shierlavv- “The Better Land.” Air. F. Gowlriek “Queen of Angels,” and Air. 11. Grieve “A Dream of Paradise.” Alessrs AlcKay and Rhincsniith played as a violin tide et. “The'Spanish Alaiden,” and the National Anthem brought the concert to a close.
