DEFAULTING SLAUGHTERMEN.
NEGLECT TO PAY FINES. ■ DISTRESS WARRANTS EXECUTED. [Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Jrine 23. A uumber of the distress warrants recently issued by the Labor Department against slaughtermen who had neglected to. pay the fines imposed bv the Arbitration Court have been executed. Iu some cases it was found that tho bird (mostly of the Australian variety) had flown, and in others there was no property to distrain on. On this latter ground several unmarried men were able to avoid payment; temporarily, at least. In marked contrast to the usual run of cases was that of a young man, who, after an absence from New Zealand extending over, twelve months, called at tho office, the other day and paid Iris fine without a word. Quite a number of tho slaughtermen are paying in small weekly instalments.
