MILITARY BALL.
A BRILLIANT, SUCCESS,
■ The seventh annual ball of the East Coast . Mounted Rifles was held in His Majesty’s Theatre last evening, nd was a great success. The floor ivas in excellent order, tho stage nicely furnished -and decorated with Hags. Aboqt 200 couples wero presont, and the handsome uniforms of tho officers and men gave a most military -appearance to the function. Among the officers present wore Colonel AVin.ter, -Surgeon-Captains Scott and Schumacher, Captain Beere, Lieutenants Evans, Hamilton, Coleman -and Somervell. Apologies were received from, tlio -Hon. Jas. Carroll, Colonel Porter,- C. 8., Colonel Bauchop, Alajor Russell, and Captain Colebourne. His AA’orship t-lio Mayor and .Mrs. Lysnar wero also present. Tho committee in charge of’ the ball wero: Captain Tombloson, (Sur-geon-Captain Scott„ Lieutenants Evans and Hamilton, Sergeant-Major Kinder, Quarter-master Sergeant Zachari-all, -Sergeants Fairlio, Elllis, Poynter, Oates,, Spragg, AVitters, -and Colo, Corporals BurJow, AVilliams, and Hughes, Lance-corporals AValker and Cameron. -Lieutenant Evans as hon. secretary worked hard to ensure (ho pleasure of every one, and to him no email share of the success of the evoning was duo. The music was provided by the Gisborne City Band, and was appropriately selected, while Mr. Wootton’s orchestra supplied the music lor the extras. The supper tables w ere nicely decorated, and well laden, the catering being done by Air. J. Erskino.
Among tho ladies present were: The Alayoress, who (tore a handsome cream embroidered race gown over satin; Airs. Jex-Blake, opalescent chiffon gown, handed with pale green satin; Airs. Tombleson, pale heliotrope inerve silk; Airs. C. Buscke, pale pink satin,<andcream -lace; Airs. G. Willock, purple velvet, trimmed with point luce; Airs. Alax. Jackson, black chiffon and taffetas; Airs. (Dr.) Scott, cream chiffon and taffetas, embroidered with roses and silk lice; Airs. (Dr.) AVilliams. cream net over satin, wit]], cream satin bonds, and pink roses; ALs. E. H. Alann, cream brocaded satin, trimmed with lace; Mrs. J. Alurphy, cream spotted chiffon over satin, trimmed- with pink roses; Airs. -Owen Alonckton, black mervo silk and point lace; Airs. AV. Shei-ratt, black satin and net; Airs. C. Sainsbury, cream satin -and silk lace; Airs. R. U. Burke, black chiffon taffetas and cream lace; Airs. Gaudin, navy blue brocade silk and opal blue flowers; Aliss Williamson, pale blue chiffon over -white satin; Miss Malcolm, pale pink -silk; Miss Crawford, yellow satin banded with yellow velvet; Aliss E. Crawford, pink satin; Miss -McCredie, pale heliotrope silk ; Aliss Beatson . (Hastings) pale green chiffon taffetas, relieved with dark green velvet; Aliss Wood-bine-Jonlistone, crimson chiffon and velvet ; and Aliss Worthington, creiam ninoh dress with touches of blue.
