GOLF.

There was a good muster of players at the links on Saturday afternoon. The weather was beautifully fine, but unusually warm for this season of the year. Tlie principal game played during the afternoon was between. J. H. Bull (2) and .AV . N. Barron (10), who played off their l game in the “A”’ tournament. Neither player played up to -his true form, but nevertheless they did a good round, victory ultimately resting with the captain of the Club by 2 up. J. H. Bull has now to meet J. Howie (10), and "whoever wins will playoff the final. F. >H. AA r . Traill (scr.) has yet to meet AY. B. AVillock (9), and the winner plays P. Iveiha, who has a bye, Howden and Traill did a good round together. The latter was in capital driving form, and extended his renownm! antagonist to the full extent of his ability. They were all square at the fourteenth hole ,but from here on Howden played at the top of his form, and won the last four holes. '

This was Howden’s last go mo in Gisborne, as bo left for the iSoutli, last evening. He intends opening a sports depot in Auckland, and while south will combine business with pleasure for some three weeks. It is a- matter for regret that Howden is leaving the district, as tho style of such afine player is a liberal education to younger players ill a district where professional coaching is unobtainable. Other players out on Saturday were AV. B. AV.illock, C. Fenwick, AV. R. Barker, AV. F. J. Anderson, J. M; Curtis, AV. A. O’Alcara, G. BradleySmitli, >E. A. Adair, A. E„ N. Smith, W. Gibson, S. Murray, J. Howie, AV. G. Ev ms, 11. AVillock, N. Bull, and others. A.

There wero many ladies out for practice, and the links presented an animated appearance. Mrs. A. AY. Roes and Miss Rees gave afternoon tea. .
