AUCKLAND, July 21. The shop of James Pascoe' jeweller, Iviranagaliape Road, was, between 6.30 and 7 to-night, visited bv a burglar, who carried off jewellery to the value of £4OO. Mr. Pascoe s in the habit of going home to tea at 6.30, leaving a placard on the door af the shop, which is alwavs locked, of course, stating he will “‘return at 7- The burglar made his entrance through a window at the rear, of the shop and made a clean sweep of ml- - most everything, including a parcel of jewellery that had been Toft on approval. ' ~
The Rev. H. R. Dewsbury lias accepted an invitation to the Auckland East (Grafton Road) circuit. The Rev. Air. Luxford has accepted to go to Wanganui, and the Rev. W. Ready of Christchurch comes to Pitt Street, Auckland.
NAPIER, Julv 21. At a meeting of the Napier Harbor Board to-day it was resolved that steps be taken to have the constitution of the Board altered to that members may be made entirely elective by electors of boroughs, town districts, and counties in the district, and that the representation be based as nearly ns may be upon the valuation of different portions of the harbor rating district. . A committee of the Hawke’s Bay Employers’ Association has considered the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Bill, and amendments suggested by the Employers’ ■Federation. The committee is generally favorable to the amendments proposed by the Federation, but does not approve of the Canterbury proposal to leave disputes iu the hands of a public conciliator only. In conclusion, the Hawke’s Bay Association’s committee says the proposed Act appeals to them as a bona fide endeavor to putindustrial conditions, on a better footing for all concerned,-and some such Act is the only hope of preventing compulsory conciliation and arbitration from being swept away altogether. • ' A start lias been made with the pile-driving for the ferro-concrete extension of Glasgow wharf. WELLINGTON, July 21. Cable advice was received bv the Mayor to-glay stating that the" Wellington city loan, of £loo,Oud (4 per cent, debentures at par) has been satisfactorily floated. CHRISTCHURCH, July 21. A six-ioomed house in Aberdeen Street, occupied by Mrs. J. Baggatt, was, with the contents, totally destroyed by fire to-day. Mrs. Baggatt ; was bed-ridden, and had to be carried out of tbe burning house and taken to the hospital. Three months ago, Mrs. J. Best, of that her house had been entered in tho afternoon during her temporary absence, and jewellery valued at £65 stolen. This afternoon Detectives Gibson and Ward arrested a man named Hayes .in tho city, and charged him with the burglary. Most of the. missing jewellery has been recovered .

Coogan was charged with stealmg a hand-bag containing surgical instruments valued at £lO from a doctor s motor-car, and was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment. rl „ ■ DUNEDIN, July 21. llie Otago Central railway, which l 1 been blocked between Ran furl y and Oturehua for the last fortnight with snow, was cleared to-day, and ordinary traffic was resumed. Invercargill, July 21. A five-roomed house, owned by John Baird and occupied by John tennon, was burned down with most or the contents early this morning. There was an insurance of £l5O on the house in the Commercial Union, and £IOO on the furniture in the Vie* toria. .
