- THE BRITISH TOUR. MATCH AT ROTORUA. [Press Association.] • ROTOR.UA, July 21. The. match between tho British footballers and the Maoris to-day .-resulted in an easy win for Britain by 2-1 points to 3. Although Britain’s score is big. it in no way indicates that the game was one-sided, the Maoris holding their own throughout. The brilliance of the, British -backs was responsible for the big score. The forwards on both sides - were evenly matched, and- the first spell ended: Britain 8, Maoris nil; two tries being scored, one by Dyke a.nd the other by Laxon, the latter being converted by Harding. The second spell provedmost disastrous for the Maoris-as four tries were added to- Britain’s credit, two being converted. These tries' wore scored by Jones, Griffiths, Me-: Evedy, anil Dyke, and McEvedy converted two. Towards the closing stages of the gam e Jackett was-pre-vented from getting in liis kick, -and, losing possession of the ball, Kira raced for the line -neck and neck with the Britisher, and scored near the corner. Wild excitement greeted-the effort,, and" Kira was carried shoulder high by -a crowd of Maoris. The attendance was estimated at 1500. The weather was cloudy, and rain began to fall just at tho close of the game. The Britishers are being entertained at a social and dance to-night in- the Assembly Hall.
