TROTTING CONFERENCE. [Press Association.] - WELLINGTON, July 21. The Trotting Conference opened today, Mr. G. Payling (president) being an the chair. The chairman, in liis, annual address, congratulated the members and clubs on another successful year. There had been an increase of £I4OO in stakes, while the totalisator revenue exceeded that of last year by over £BOOO. Reference was made to the flourishing condition of affairs on the West Coast. In regard 1 to those non-totalisator clubs whose prize money falls short of the miniimum recpiired, the chairman considered such clubs to be detrimental to ,sport, -and lie- suggested that it be a recommendation to the governing body to fix the minimum amount at not less than £l5O of stakes per (lay, and to refuse to pass any programme that did not conform to that. The necessity for stipendiary stewards was urged, and reference was made to notices of motion to be considered by the conference. , GRAND NATIONAL MEETING. [Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, July 21. Fretwork has been scratched for all engagements at- the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Grand National meeting.
