COMMITTEES’ REPORTS. At the ordinary meeting of the Gisborne Borough'Council to be held on Tuesday evening next, the following report from the committee consisting of the Mayor (Mr. W. D. Lsynar), Crs. Williams and Sawyer, set up to go into the question of purchasing suitable areas for recreation grounds for public use, will be read : “A careful inspection of several suitable sites on both Kuiti and Whataupoko was made, and the committee suggests that an amount of £5850 bo added to the proposed street loan to obtain the following: “A recreation or sports ground on Kaiti, at cost (including putting in order) of £2OOO. “A similar ground oil Wliataupoko. £2OOO. “Preparing 10 acres of Borough reserve, Childers road, for a sports and recreation ground, as per inspector’s estimate: Cost of Oft iron fenco £369, piping drain 2in £277, removing all rubbish from, site and shifting two cottages to sanitary depot £l7O, ploughing and levelling £184; total £IOOO.

“Getting portion of recreation ground, Tarulieru river, in order for nucleus of botanical gardens, £2OO. “Securing a email piece of ground up the W-aimata river, near the Hole-iii-tlie-Wall,' as a picnic resort, including planting, etc., £l5O. “Botanical gardens on part of hill near Cook’s monument-,' including extension of area, £3OO. “Total, £5850.” At a meeting of the Charitable Aid Board to be held on the same evening, the committee set up to consider the question of providing accommodation for old women will submit a recommendation' that the report made to the Board on the subject some two years ago bo adopted. This provided for adding-to tlie bouse of the custodian of the Old Men’s Home, to provide two bedrooms and a sitting-room large enough to give ample accommodation for six persons. All the rooms will contain fireplaces, and a verandah will also he added. The estimate for the additions and furnishings is about £300; and as the contributions from local bodies have already been fixed, the money, if the report is adopted, will have to be found by an overdraft. Owing to the last ordinary meeting of tlio Hospital Trustees lapsing for want of a quorum, a meeting has been called tor to-morrow evening at 7.30 p.m., to comply with the law, which states that a meeting must be called within seven days. As a special meeting of the Borough Council has been called for the same hour, and some representatives of the Cook County Council will be unable to attend, it is probable that the meeting will he further adjourned.
