I’ 11. RUGBY UNION
A short mooting of the Management Committee of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union was held last night in the Alasonic Hotel. Present: Messrs rl. E. Maude (chairnm.il), J. S. \\ aucliop, C. Morse, L. O. Ingram, IV. Johnston, H. Bright, L. B. Sherrill, H. PLillett, and E. L Maude, lion. sec. Apologies for non-atteiulance were received from Messrs G. lx. Pauley, W. 11. Brady, and J. A. Eaton. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was received from the lion, secretary of tlio Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union regarding tlio date of the proposed" representative match with Poverty Bay, ami stating that they wore unable to alter the date from that originally stated.—lt was resolved that tlio*date offered bo accepted. Tlio secretary of the Catholic School F.C. wrote thanking the Union for tho donation of a football to their club, anti also for tho use of tho ground last- Saturday. It was resolved that tho Kaiti-City-Tokomnru match ho played on No. 1 ground on Saturday next, _ and the junior Cup tic, West End-Ivaiti-City, on No. 2 ground, both games to take place at 3 p.m. A numbor of accounts were passed for payment, and tho meeting concluded. Smith scored for the visitors, and Heta for Pakipaki, who had a weak team. WANGANUI BEATS SOUTH CANTERBURY.

WANGANUI, August 10. The representative football match between Wanganui ami South Canterbury was played on the recreation ground on Saturday afternoon. Tlie weather conditions were perfect, there being no wind. The game proved fairly even. The opposing forwards were equally matched, but the local backs were slightly the smarter. Wanganui, without the services of' lteed, Ilogan, and Leahv, played with the sun in their eyes in the first spell. South Canterbury made the first score, Priest being responsible for a try, which Roddick converted with a splendid kick. Shortly afterwards the visitors wore penalised and Payton kicked a goal, the spell ending South Canterbury d, Wanganui 3. On resuming the Wanganui backs opened up play, ’and Mitchell as a finale to a nice passing rush scored near the posts, Seeling converting. The Wanganui backs continued to keep the ball among them, and from another passing rush 'Mitchell again scored, but points were not added. The visiting forwards, who wore playing well, took play in the Wanganui territory, and Roddick eventually scored, but .the kick was unsuccessful. Towards the close of the game the Wanganui forwards forced play and Irvine scored, and Payton added the major points. The final score was Wanganui 10, South Canterbury 8. AUSTRALIAN TOURING TEAM.
