At the conclusion of a case at tho Police Court this afternoon, in which a- young man was charged with the theft of a letter containing two postal notes and 8s in stamps, belonging to his late employer, Mr. Clayton (one of the presiding Justices) commented upon the small salary which the accused had been receiving. Addressing the employer, ho remarked, QYou employed this young man at £1 per week, expecting him to keep himself respectable and tofind himself. The Bench considers that it is not right of a respectable tradesman to employ a young man. at such a wage and expect him to be honest. It is out of all reason.” WELLINGTON, August 13. Aid Board to-dav received a report, forwarded by the Inspector-General of an Inspector under the Infant- Lite Hospitals, in which Miss Petrimant. Protection Act, 1907, made a strong criticism of tho sare of children at the Board’s Lome farm home, and recommended the appointment of a trained nurse. Reports were, also received from two doctors and the matron disposing of the Inspectors allegations, and a legal opinion from Messrs Hall.
