An English doctor, travelling from Tangier to Foe, after witnessing a fight between the tribes of Benaouda and Ermique, against the advice of two of Maghzen’s soldiers entered the territory of Ermique, by whom he was carptured. Ermique accused him of commanding some of Benaoiulan’s men. Criers immediately proclaimed a “holy” war, and excited tribesmen, tortured the doctor to death.
