He was brougl'it to a private hospital in town, but bis case defied all medical skill, and he passed away last evening at 5 o’clock. Ahieli sympathy is extended to the relutives.-of the deceased.

The liov. Thomas Fee gave a lecture upon 110-licenso at Ormond on Monday evening. There was a large attendance, Air. A. AI. Newman being in the chair. The lecturer dealt with the increasing drink bill, also tho increase in drunkenness, especially among the rising generation, giving figures to prove his statements. He emphasised the fact tint since no-licenso had been carried in Oanumi, crime there had been reduced to olie-third the original amount. The undoubted success of 110license in Invercargill and Ashburton was -also dealt with, with facts and figures in support-.of same. The rev. gentleman dealt with the subject in a comprehensive and convicning manner, and was frequently applauded. At the conclusion of the address soveral questions bearing on the subject were asked by members of tho aduience, and were answered bv Air. Fee. Tho meeting closed with the usual vote of thanks to speaker and chairman. Air. Tlios.
