CONCLUSION OF CASE. VERDICT OF NOT GUILTY. [Press Association.] DUNEDIN, August 20. In Cornish’s case no witnesses were called for the defence. Air. Fraser summed up the evidence called on helm If of the Crown, after which Air. Hanlon addressed the jury. The defence generally was the absolutely contradictory nature of tlie evidence of all tho witnesses called, and the way the Crown had Shan doped point after paint on which their case originallv rested. Counsel referred particularly- to the evidence of the woman Bennett and her two distinct statements, the latter of which lie characteriserd as venomous revenge in consequence of her dismissal from service by the accused.
The jury retired for luncheon and deliberations at 11.30 a.in., and returned at 3.15 p.m. with, a verdict of not guilty, and accused was discharged.
