' . WHANGAREI, August 25. The citizens of Whangarei .have decided to hold a four days carnival during the last two days in December and the first two days in January. The programme arranged includes a B Grade band contest, axemen’s competition under the auspices of tho New Zealand Axemen’s Association, military and school cadets’ sports, bowling and tennis tournaments, regatta and race meeting. Prizes to the value of £SOO will be offered, and various arrangements are being made to enable tourists to visit the numerous beauty spots.of the district which have hitherto been reserved for. a few owing to the lack of cheap means of transit. A strong committee of leading business men have the whole affair well in hand.
