GISBORNE HOSPITAL.
DR, VALINTINE’S REPORT,
[Special to “Times.”]
AVELLINGTON, August 27. Reporting on a visit to the Gisborne Hospital in February last, the Inspec-tor-General says that six patients were in various stages ol enteric lever, one being a registered nurse. There were two chronic cases, a mental case and one of tabes dorsalis. Hie former bad been in the institution two years and tho latter six months. “I represented to the trustees the de. ability of discharging such pa tic ids :\s the demand for the, accommodate, cl acute cases is steadily increasing, r; fact, under Dr. AVilson, tlic recentlyappointed medical superintendent, the hospital is working smoothly, and is so well managed that it has already regained the confidence of the public, which it bad lost in some measure under the old regime. I was occupied for some days in an inquiry into a case of alleged neglect of a patient under tlic old management, but the charge could not be sustained. The hospital wards were in extremely good order, but tho grounds wore not well ‘kept. I interviewed the trustees regarding certain necessai'y improvements, which doubtless will be carried out.”
