MATAWHERO STOCK SALES.
There was only a small yarding of sheep and a poor muster of cattle at tho usual fortnightly stock sales held at Matawhero yesterday. The yards were feet deep in filth, mud and water, and the public had great difficulty in getting about, many expressing the opinion that tho proprietors should do something to prevent 6ucli an unpleasant state of things. SHEEP. The sheep pens were almost empty, only about 2000 being yarded. Ewes and lambs were wanted, and sold at an average price of 17s, and at prices from 10s to 17s 9d. The chief pens were': 100 ewes and lambs 17s 9d, 22 ewes with lambs 10s Gd, and 46 ewes with 15 lambs 17s 3d. There was a good demand for forward hoggets at from 10s to 12s 3d, the following being tho sales: 24 .at 10s, 64 at 12s 3d. Poorer sorts brought from 7s Id to 9s 7d. Store wethers sold at 14s Gd, a small pen of prime ewes at 15s 6d, and two lat ewes and 6 wethers 15s. CATTLE.
The yarding of cattle consisted chiefly of springers and dairy cows, which sold Vat fair value, though a number were passed in at auction and disposed! of privately. Springers brought from £3' to £G, milkers from £4 106 to £5 10s. and one old cow to calve sold at £lO. A pen of 39 bullocks in forward condition brought £5 2s Gd, and a pen of 18 were disposed of privately.’
