STEAMER SUVA DAMAGED
A TUG CRIPPLED

SYDNEY, August 28. There was a collision off North Head early this morning between the steamer Suva, bound ior Newcastle for bunker coal, and the tug Hero, inward bound. - Both were badly damaged, the Suva being struck on the port side anti a hole six feet in length and eighteen inches in depth was cut just belou the deck lovel. Several plates below the water line wero damaged, and rivets were sturtThe pumps kept tlio heavy inrush of water down till tlio vessel reached the wharf. The Hero was crippled, and was towed up the harbor in the afternoon.

Her stem was broken and the boiler was shifted from its position. The steam-pipe connections wero carried away, and the forepart was flooded and completely disabled. Luckily none of those on board were injured by the escaping steam. Both vessels are docking, and tour of tho Suva’s plates need renewing.
