POSTER BALL.

FINE DISPLAY OF COSTUMES. The novelty of the poster and dnnev dress ball promoted bv the Federal Brass Band (better known a s the Gisborne Private Band) drew a large crowd to His Majesty’s Theatre last evening. The dross circle was packed with spectators, standing room being scarcely obtainable, and there were about. 150 couples on the floor, -a largo majority being in poster or fancy dress. Some very artistic and unique posters had been designed, and the floor presented a very gay -appearance. Many of the gentlemen were attired in costumes of -a humorous character, and as they danced caused a great deal of amusement. Among the posters that were conspicuous in tlio large number were those representing Messrs Hallenstein Brothers, Adair Brothers. “The Gisborne Times.’ ’ IN To use’s Hairdressing Saloon, Ormond's Conch Factory, Smith’s Cordials, tlio Poverty Bay Supply Stores, (Speight’s Ale, Lymla Soap, British Empire Hotel, The Fresh Food and Ice Company. Taylor’s Cafe, Monkev Brand Soap. Lion Ale. Wootton’s Wedding Cakes, the Strand Cafe, and Watson’s Whisky.

The judging -of- the costumes was done by the vote of the patrons of the dress circle, and resulted in MUs Noilson, representing Messrs L. D. Nathan and Co.. Ltd., winning the prize for the best poster ladv. and •M. J. Teasel ale, representing Mr. C. (Morse’s hairdressing saloon, the prize for the best, poster gentleman. Miss Jones won the prize for the lady in the best fancy dress, and Mr. Hangliie the prize for the best gentleman in fancy dress. The Manor (Mr. W. D. Lysnar) presented the prize*, and in doing so complimented the Band on the success of the ball. The Band had provided the public with a great many entertainments and open-air performances, -111(1 had noblv assisted in- tlio cause of charity. The Band had in Mr. C. J. Bollon an energetic secretary, who spared no effort to keep it prominently before the, public. The music was supplied by the Band, Messrs Vita Bros., ' Miss (Moore’s orchestra, and Mr. Wootton’s. orchestra. The supper was supplied by Air. AYoottori.' During ail -interval -a flash-light photograph of the dancers was taken by Air. T. Thomas.
