PURIFYING THE SPORT

AUCKLAND, Sept. 25. The ■annual meeting of the Feildiiig Centre of the New Zealand Athletic Union was held to-day. The report stated that the Government measuro forbidding betting at sports meetings would greatly purify the sport. Athletes who had left the Union in order to run at tlio Auckland gaslight meetings wero now endeavoring to enter the Un-ion again, the new betting restrictions having stopped tlie gaslight meetings.
