THE PEOPLE'S DAY.

[To the Editor.] Sir, —I think it seems a great pity that tlie tradespeople of Gisborne seem to he drifting away from tlio one groat day at the Show “Tho People’s Day,” that the country people have always looked forward to. 'file townspeople attend and make it a financial success, which is really only right, considering that tlio country is practically the buck-bone of the town. Yet there seems to lie so much squabbling with the business people over closing for the whole day only during this .last couple of years. Surely, if all the principal shops close, there can bo really no trade lost, and if the country people did tlie correct thing, they would not purchase anything in town that day. Trusting that something more satisfactory will take place before the Show, so- as to ensure a general holiday,—l am, etc., “FARMER.”
