COLLIDES WITH EXPRESS TRAIN.

PALMERSTON N., Sept. 27. A sensational motor-car accident occurred here on Saturday, when tlie south express collided with a 12-14 Singer motor, containing Air. Wishaw, a well-known land agent, and Mrs. Rollett and her six-year-old son.
The party were returning toFeilding from Wellington, and the car was going fast towards Alexandra at tho level crossing when the accident occurred. Air. Wish aw did not see the train till nearly in the main street, when lie put the brakes full on, ploughing up the road’s face. As this could' not stqp him at the pace, he opened the throttle and tried to pass at top speed, slewing as ho did so to get the collision behind. The train smashed into the tonneau,knocking the wholo car off tlie lino and turning it over. .Air. AVisliaw and Airs. Rollett were thrown clear of the train, but the boy was, by some extraordinary means, picked up by the cowcatcher of the second locomotive and carried for 50 yards, and the train was stopped ill its . own length. Tho car, all but the engine, radiator, and the gear-box was smashed.
Air. Wisliaw, who had been thrown on a large iron drain pipe, had two front ribs smashed and his ankle sprained, and Airs. Rollett is bruised all over, but has no bones broken. The child lias a swollen bead, black eye, and bruises.
