WANDERERS’ CLUB

The third annual general meeting of the Wanderers’ Cricket Club was held at the British Empire Hotel last evening, when there was a satisfactory attendance of members. Mr. J. F. Pettie, vice-president, occupied the chair.

Mr. H. E. Alaude, hon. secretary and treasurer, read the annual repor and balance-sheet. The report congratulated members on the excellent position disclosed by the statement of receipts and expenditure. After paying all liabilities, the Club had a balance in hand of £4 2s Gil, which must bo held to he eminently satisfactory considering tho small number of members. Tho Club had been runners-up for tho championship. Thanks wore due to Messrs D. J. Barry (president), G. B. Oman, R. Johnston, J. F. Pettie, It. S. Caulton, J. A. Lucas, and H. H. Slurp for donations towards the funds and material during tlie season. The report concluded with a hope that a strong effort should be made to promote junior cricket. The balance-sheet showed that tho receipts had amounted to £ll 12s 6d and expenditure to £7 10s, leaving a credit balance of £4 2s 6d. In moving tho adoption of the report and balance-sheet, tho Chairman congratulated tho members of the Club on tho satisfactory position disif the members only showed,tho same closed, and stated he felt certain, that if the players showed as much enthusiasm in the approaching season as they had done in that just passed the Club would attain an even more successful position. The report- and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing season:—Patrons, ATessrs A. Dewing, G. B. Oman, D. Hepburn, J. J. Martin, J. H. Martin, Chas. Evans, R. S. Caulton, R. Johnston, C. AVhite, and R. S. Chilton; president, Air. D. J. Barry; vice-presidents, Alessrs J. A. Lucas anil J. F. Pettie; the election of a captain was left to the first, eleven; vice-captain, Air. P. S. McCol.l; hon. secretary and treasurer, Air. H. E. Alaude; committee, Alessrs D. Barry, J. Davies, H. Glennie, S. McConnell, and C. Lasker; ground committee, Messrs D. Barry, J. O’Donnell, S. AfcConnell, and P. S. AIcColl; delegates to Poverty Bay Cricket Association, ,Alessrs D. Barry and P. S. ATcColl; - selection committee, captain, vice-captain, -and Air. S. AlcConnell; auditor, Air. D. Barry. The following new members were elected:—A. R. Valder, H. E. Innes, AV. Lee-Archer, AV. Schofield, and J. Kirk.

Air. M. AVeir offered a gold medal for the best hatting average during the season, and Messrs J. F. Pettie and J. A. Lucas offered trophies to be awarded by tho committee. On the motion of Art.' H. E. Alaude the delegates of the Club were instructed to advise the Cricket Association • to accept the generous offer of Art. E. J. West to put the turf wicket at Victoria Domain in. order free of cost, in order that tho wicket might bo ready for play as early in the season as possible. Tlie Chairman stated that it was tho first occasion on which he had had tho pleasure of presiding over a cricket meeting. He took a keen interest in manly outdoor snorts such as cricket, as he considered they tended to improve tho physical and moral standard of the young men of tho community. Anything he could do to assist tlio AVanderers’ Club or cricket generally he would bo only too pleased .to do. A vote of thanks to the donors of trophies and tho chairman terminated the meeting.
