THE HOAIE AIARKETS

WELLINGTON, Oct, 5. The High -Commissioner’s cable, dated London, October 3rd, states: The mutton market is dull, trade for all classes being very slow, and prices barely maintained. The following are current quotations : Light weights, Canterbury 4Jd, North Island 3-|d; liea\*y weights, Canterbury 3hi, North Island 3|d. There is a better tone in the lamb market this A week. Tho stocks .on hand are light, and the market may advance further if t-lie demand does not abate. Canterbury Jamb is quoted at sgd, other than Canterbury o-J-d. The beef market is quieti and likely t-o go lower. SuppUssTit America n chilled beef are large. New Zealand hindquarters 3Jd;*- forequarters 3-J-d. The butter market is firm, but the demand is only moderate. Secondgrade is plentiful, hut the demand is chiefly for best quality. Danish butter is quoted at 1245, Siberian,lo9s, and Argentine 116 s. ■ The cheese market is dull, but prices are firm, and there is no change to report.
The hemp market closes weak, with a lower tendency in prices.. The following are current quotations: Good fair grade, on spot, £27; flair grade, on spot, £23; fair current Manila, oil spot, £23 10s; October to December shipments, good fair grade £25 15s, fair grade £25 ;fair current Manila £23 10s. Last week’s output from Manila amounted tc 12,000 hales. The cocksfoot seed market is dull, and poor business has been done. Bright, clean 171 b seed is at Sss per cwt (nominal).
