MATAWHERO STOCK SALES. There was a poor attendance of buyers at tlie fortnightly stock sales at Matawbero yesterday. Competition was slack, many of the pens being passed in, a few being afterwards disposed of privately. SHEEP. About 6000 sheep, mostly ewes, were yarded, and prices showed a decline on last sale day’s quotations. Fat sheep were not wanted, and five pens of prime wethers were pissed without a bid. Two pens of wellgrown lambs were also offered, and passed in. Fat ewes sold to 14s, the following being tho sales: 32 at 14s, 40 at 14s, 39 at 14 s , 31 at 12s 6d. Store sheep met with a slightly better demand, but the conipetiton could not be described as brisk. 125 fourtooth wethers in forward condition brought 13s, ISI wethers 14s, and 127 forward wether hoggets 12s 7d; 94 owes with ■lr.mbs sold- at 13s, 31 empty cull ewes ss, and a pen of , 83 aged ewes "at 2s 2d. CATTLE. Beef was in poor demand, the following prices being realised: Four steers £5 2s 6d. equal to about 16s per 1001 b, 4 at £5 17s 6d, and 4 prime steers at £6. Two fat cows brought £5, and two forward empty cows £5 10s. Tlio store pens sold: 27 yojing steers £2 16s, 16 at £3, 8 at- £3 15s, 22 calves at £1 6g, 6 weaners at £1 ss, 1 spring heifer. £0 ss, one dairy cow £4 12s 6d, 7 dry cows and 4 calves sold at £2 ss. A number of cattle were sold after the auction sale.
