FOOTBALL.
NORTHERN UNION GAME.
[Press Association.]
CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 13. The President of the Canterbury Rugby Union (Mr. A. E. G. Rhodes) has no great fear of the Northern Union game usurping the popularity of amateur Rugby in New Zealand. Rrferring to the latest movement at the Rugbv Union annual smoke concert last night, Mr. Rhodes said there was not sufficient population to enable the Northern game to make much headway. He did not want to say anything against those who were promoting the new game, but he thought it woiild be a bad day for football in the Dominion if the Northern game made any great progress.
