BERLIN, Oct. 12. Tito Gordou-Bennett .international race a t Berlin darted yesterday. I nere were 23 balloons, each having three days’ provisions. Tno American balloon Conqueror, containing Mr. A. Forbes and iMajor Horsey, shot up 4000 feet. Tho 8000 spectators wero horrified to see the envelope slip up ami the balloon drop like a stone. Then the envelope bulged like a parachuto, slackening the rate of descent. J lie wrecked mass disappeared behind houses in a euburb. , It was soon ascertained that tlio envelope hung ovor one sido ol a building, balancing the basket on the other. Mr. Forbes and Major Horsey were not hurt. They wore assisted up the roof, and thence through a trap door. , . . . , Mr Forbes, on being interviewed, said that hearing a imp lie cut away 50 bags of ballast. Major Horsey threw out everything possible, and the balloon parachuted finally . Ihe whole incident showed how safe ballooning really is. SPANISH BALLOON RIPS. DESCENDS IN SAFETY.
