WELLINGTON, Oct. 14. Mr. It. A. Wright, of Wriglit and Carman, printers, announces his intention oi contesting the South Wellington seat at -the coming general election. Mr. Wright has been a resident of Wellington for 27 years. He is opposed to the present Government. THE HURUNUI SEAT. [Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Oct. 14. A telegram to the Press Association from JCaikoura states that private reasons prevent Mr. A. W. Rutherford complying with the requisition to contest the Hurunui seat at the general election. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 14. Mr. G. D. Greenwood, a candidate for the Hurunui seat, addressed a meeting of electors at Amberley last night, and was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence. The candidate announced he would support'io the Government in its present geu-, ! oral policy. :• • A DUNEDIN CANDIDATE. [Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Oct. 14. Mr. R. Slater, who was recently announced as a candidate for Dunedin South seat, has decided not to stand.
DR. CHAPPLE BEFORE THE ELECTORS. [Press Association.] " .NASEBY, Oct, 11. Dr. Ch ippie., a candidate for Tua ; peka, addressed a largo meeting to-' night. Ho gave general support, to the legislation of the 1 last session, though he believes the .Arbitration: Act will require considerable amendment. 'He favors the absolute majority system in preference to the (second ballot, which he believes will not work satisfactorily.' and he advocated an increased population for the Dominion. New Zealand should be careful to choose the class of immigrants. In one hatch of new arrivals only ten per cent, of the people were far--mere. He spoke strongly concerning the need for irrigation in Central Otago, und othc* local wants, and .was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
